WHAT IS CO-PAY/CO-INSURANCE?

If you are covered at 90% after your deductible is satisfied, each massage will only cost you 10% (or $6) out of pocket thereafter.  The 10%, or $6 out of pocket you owe is referred to as co-insurance.  Your insurance company then pays the remaining 90% or $54 of the massage.  This principle applies to all medical service as well, so another $80 office visit to your doctor would cost $8 (10% of $80).

Sometimes insurance plans opt for co-pays instead of co-insurance.  A co-pay is a flat cost instead of a percentage.  For example, many patients have a $10 co-pay; this means that with each visit $10 is paid by the patient to the provider for their medical service, and the rest of the cost is paid by your insurance company.
